EMT Elective CEU Programs
The following Elective CEU classes are currently on our schedule. Please log on to www.njoemscert.com to register for any of these classes. Also please select the link to the class you are interested in taking, and print and complete the form, and bring it with you to class.
When registering at www.njoemscert.com you must first log into the website with your EMT ID number and the password you have created (password is case sensitive and must contain at least 1 letter, 1 number and 1 special character). Select the class you wish to register for using either the Course Catalog to locate the class, or the Communication tab (Communication, then select ILT Calendar, then select the correct date of the class and scroll through the time until you locate your class). Once you select the correct class click on 'VIEW' and then scroll to the bottom of the specific class you wish to take. Click on 'Preview My Schedule' and the program will display all of the courses you have registered for. Scroll to the bottom of the list and find the new class you have selected and then scroll all the way to the right. You will see the word 'Register' in dark blue. Click on that and you will be registered for the class. HOWEVER, if your EMT ID number begins with a '6' you will be unable to log into this website. All students are strongly urged to maintain careful records of your courses, especially for those who have EMT ID numbers beginning with a 6.
Tuition is as listed on each class flyer. The EMT Training Fund no longer covers Elective EMT CEUs. No tuition fee will be charged to any EMT who is a member of a 20th District NJSFAC member agency; you must submit the NJSFAC 20th District Member Agency Elective CEU Exemption Form. Bloodborne Pathogens/Hazard Communications (formerly Right-to-Know):
The
BBP/Haz-Com class meets the yearly OSHA requirement for BBP and meets
the two year OSHA requirement for Hazard Communications. This is a 3
Elective CEU class being offered on Monday July 16, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Englewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 7 Jay St (corner S. Van Brunt St), Englewood, NJ 07631 (Bergen County). The fee for this class is $20.00; there is no cost for

Crew Chief 101:
The Crew Chief 101 class is a 3 hour, 3 Elective CEU class being offered on Friday July 20, 2018 at 7:30 PM, at the Lincoln Park First Aid Squad, 34 Chapel Hill Road, Lincoln Park, NJ 07035 (Morris County). This course will provide new and experienced Crew Chiefs or Crew Chief candidates with guidelines on the responsibilities of being a good Crew Chief and will discuss the qualifications, experience and obligations of a Crew Chief. Hazardous Materials Awareness Recertification:
The
Haz-Mat Awareness recertification class is the OSHA approved Refresher
course required yearly for all EMS responders. This is a 3 hour, 3
Elective CEU class being offered on Monday July 30, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Englewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 7 Jay St (corner S. Van Brunt St), Englewood, NJ 07631 (Bergen
County). The fee for this class is $20.00; there is no cost for members

each student must have a FEMA SID number; if you have already been
assigned a number you do not need to do this again.

Step 3: Follow the instructions and provide the necessary information to create your account.

EMS Jeopardy:
This fun-filled quiz style review of multiple facets of EMS care and
procedures will stimulate the EMT's knowledge and provide entertainment
while refreshing old skills and learning some new skills. This class is
a 2 hour, 2 elective CEU class being offered on at PM, at the at the (Bergen County). The fee for this class is $15.00; there
is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads. Please

CEVO 4 (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator):
The CEVO 4 Ambulance
Course adapts National Safety Council proven defensive driving
techniques to the unique nature of ambulance work, training drivers in
a six hour class to safely navigate in traffic in both emergency and
non-emergency situations under severe time constraints and stress.
This class has been redesigned and now includes new materials such as
responding to an "Active Shooter" scene and the "Move Over Law". This 6
hour, 6 Elective CEU class is being offered on from 9;00 AM to 3:00 PM at the (Bergen County). The
fee for this class is $65.00, which includes the book and testing fee.

Understanding Diabetes:
This course provides an overview of the management and field treatment of Diabetics; it will provide the EMT with the immediate treatment protocols necessary to stabilize and treat patients. This course is a 3 Elective CEU class being offered on at at the 07621 (Bergen County). The fee for this class is $20.00; there is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads. Bandaging and Splinting Review:
This course provides an overview of the mechanics of bleeding and shock and the techniques used in controlling bleeding. The musculoskeletal system and care of possible broken bones will be reviewed as well. Techniques to control bleeding and stabilize broken bones will be practiced by the students. Basic Pharmacology Awareness for the BLS Provider: This Pharmacology class will help provide a better understanding to the BLS provider of medications and how they work. The various parts of this course include what a medication is, how medications work in the human body and affect the function of our many body systems, different classes of medications, how medications affect emergency medical treatment and EMS considerations when dealing with medications. CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive) Awareness:
This is a four hour, 4 Elective CEU course that will be presented as a classroom lecture. It is designed for first responders who operate at the awareness level. The lecture will familiarize students with the recognition of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and the defensive actions they may use in a response to a terrorist incident. The course will review basic awareness level response principles. This course is being offered on at 7:00 PM, at the (Bergen County). The fee for this class is $25.00. Clinical Assessment for the EMT:
The Clinical Assessment for the EMT class is a 3 Elective CEU class being offered on at 7:30 PM, at the NJ 07432. (Bergen County). This course will review traumatic injuries and medical illnesses that are not covered in the Initial EMT training course. EMS for the Special Needs Patient:
EMS for the Special Needs Patient reviews the emotional and behavioral aspects of patients, whether psychiatric or substance abuse in nature, and of patients with cognitive or social problems, including autism. Communication and physical care (treatment) of these patients will be discussed. EMS for the Special Needs Patient is a 3 Elective CEU class. The fee for this class is $20.00; there is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads.
EMS - Is There an App for That?:
This class is a 1.5 hour, 1.5 Elective CEU class which reviews the multitude of smartphone apps available, and attempts to highlight the apps which would be most helpful to EMT students in preparing for their certification exams, and attempts to highlight the apps EMTs are most likely to use in rendering patient careand/or in emergency situations. The fee for this class is $10.00; there is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads.
Psychiatric & Behavioral Emergencies:
This class is a review of Psychiatric and Behavioral Emergencies EMTs may be called upon to handle and will review criteria for use of restraints. This is a 2 hour, 2 Elective CEU class and is being offered on , at the (Bergen County). The fee for this class is $20.00; there is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads.
Spanish for the EMT:
The Spanish for the EMT class is an 8 Elective CEU class. This class is presented in a 1 day 8 hour session. The cost for this class is $40.00; there is no cost for members of eligible 20th District Squads.
